Dreaming Into the Wilderness

About the Experience

Dip your toes into the Pacific Ocean and soak your soul in the rich rainforests of Clayoquot Sound. This adventure is a dreamy departure from your ordinary sea kayak adventure. We will paddle out into the waters of Clayoquot Sound and use this as our jumping off point to let our own wild natures flourish and run free amongst the misty beaches and rain soaked forests.

Here we will listen for the whispers of the soul and the call of our true wild selves. The natural world gives us the perfect venue to explore our own inner wilderness: living with the rise and set of the sun, the ebb and flow of the tides, we learn how to hear the deep longing that calls from within.

This wilderness retreat is an adventure for women who yearn for time to explore inwards, honour the Self, and feel the power of the wilderness to transform our lives.  Renew your connections with the wild while exploring the meaning and purposein your own life transitions and challenges. Through the adventure of kayaking and contemplative exercises, you will tune into your sources of guidance and fulfillment.

Our journey will weave its way through the fruits of summer and carry us into the changing colours of autumn. Here we can celebrate the joys and discomforts of growth, in the knowledge that a time of reflection, rebirth and creativity will soon be upon us as winter draws closer. This is a time to shake off the husks of old growth and begin to bring awareness to the budding and blossoming of new intentions. It could be clarity about a job situation, a decision about a significant relationship, or reconnecting with a part of yourself that has too long been neglected. Whatever your unique purpose, this journey of mind/body/spirit will be shared in confidence within the warm and supportive environment of a circle of like-minded women.

Throughout the day, you will be exploring both the nature that surrounds you as well as your own inner nature through a full program on activity and reflection. You will be paddling out on the ocean combined with hiking, yoga, mediation, and awareness practices while on land.  At night, you will sit with your sisters beneath the stars, sharing food and laughter and gratitude for a day filled with so much joy and insight. Warm in your sleeping bag, your body pleasantly tired from so much play, lift your face to the sky and breathe. Here is where you are most yourself.

This retreat and beginner-friendly kayak trip is limited to a small group of 10 women.  You will be supported on your journey by Kate Hives, a certified Sea Kayak Guide, wild(er)ness skills mentor and wild soul traveler; and Lana MacInnis, certified Sea Kayak Guide, ecstatic dance practitioner and wild wilderness woman.

Join us in this inspired retreat to explore your dreams of being at peace and free in the wild…

Day Two to Five

We’ll have an early start to get on the water and begin our 4 hour paddle to the basecamp on Vargas Island for our 3-night back-country retreat in the heart of the spectacular wilderness that is Clayoquot Sound.  You will be camping on a white sand beach in a sheltered cove surrounded by pristine rainforest. At night you may hear the howling of wolves, for this is a healthy ecosystem with a vibrant community of wildlife.

Clayoquot Sound is a paddler’s paradise, famous for its long, secluded and spectacular sandy beaches and old growth forests. This temperate coastal rainforest provides important refuge and habitat for a significant number of animals. Bald eagles, wolves, ospreys, humpback whales and gray whales are common in the area. Besides the thrill of paddling crystal waters in the midst of nature’s playground, there’s plenty of time for quiet or active fun. Hike in old growth forest, explore stunning white sand beaches, or play in the surf!

Each day, we will offer guided meditation, movement, wilderness skills, awareness exercises, and ceremony to honour our individual dreams and our circle of wild women. We will venture out in our kayaks to explore the islands and connect consciously with the flow of the ocean. This retreat will help us to feel the wildness within ourselves, not nature as “other”, outside of us.

Practices and processes will be shared each day that will invite us to explore each our own true natures, deepening into our personal journey. We will have the opportunity to reflect upon our dreams and desires, our passions and purpose, our obstacles and opportunities. As each day unfolds and builds on the previous, we will gain clarity and understanding of our own wild selves!

Finally, on day 5 we will kayak back to our Guesthouse in Tofino and have a celebration dinner and evening ceremony before enjoying another night at a local oceanside inn.

Day Six

But this is not the end… this trip has been an initiation and an affirmation to connecting with your wild soul. It is the spark and kindling to igniting your fire for living in relationship with nature, both around you and within you. The challenge of being in the wilderness is often followed by the challenge of returning to the culture from whence you came. We will challenge one another to continue to learn how to be immersed in culture without losing the flavour of wild nature that we have all been steeped in.

After breakfast we will have a closing circle and share our intentions for what lies ahead in our quest to be wild women. We will share our insights and our ideas for integrating this journey into our worlds back home and design our next steps on our path!

Departure is anytime after 11am when you can spend more time exploring Tofino or head out for departures to Victoria or the mainland.
