Georgian Bay Kayak & Yoga Trip

About the Experience

Timeworn rock faces, diverse habitats and rugged beauty inspired landscapes painted by artists of the Group of Seven. Georgian Bay is part of the southern edge of the Canadian Shield, with granite bedrock exposed by the glaciers at the end of the last ice age, about 11,000 years ago.  This unique geology never fails to surprise! The granite rock formations and windswept Eastern White Pine are characteristic of the islands and much of the shoreline of the bay.  

By the end of this adventure you will feel rejuvenated, revitalized, and confident with the basics of kayak tripping. Join your fellow wild women as you navigate an adventure through the waters and rocky shores of Ontario’s incredible and vast Georgian Bay. Beginners encouraged and welcome to join!

This blissful 5 day adventure includes all meals and equipment. You begin with 1 night at Harmony Outdoor Inn in Parry Sound with an afternoon coaching session. The next morning you head out for a 4-day sea kayak trip with 3 nights backcountry camping. This trip provides you with an opportunity to combine a wonderful Georgian Bay kayaking experience with outdoor yoga practice in the beauty of nature.

DAY ONE: GLAMPING AT ITS FINEST

Arrive in Parry Sound early afternoon on Day 1 to check in to Ontario Sea Kayak Centre’s Harmony Outdoor Inn: ‘glamping’ at its best!  After settling in, take part in an afternoon kayaking skills clinic that will (re)introduce you to the kayak and its accompanying paddling equipment, try some basic paddling strokes as well as experience a few rescues, including a wet-exit.  This is a great opportunity to prepare for your trip, especially for those who have never experienced coastal paddling. Following the on water session, your guides will give you a packing lesson so that you are well prepared for your trip and they can ensure that everyone has all of their questions answered before heading out. Enjoy a delicious evening meal prepared by your hosts and served outside in the outdoor dining pavilion and then head to your comfy canvas cabin, nestled in the forest for a good nights’ rest.

DAY TWO – FIVE: YOUR ADVENTURE

Travelling by personal vehicle in a convoy from the inn, you embark on your kayaking trip from a launching location at Britt, paddling out of Byng Inlet to the northeastern shores of Georgian Bay. You’ll travel north, exploring stunning island archipelagos, wind sculpted white pines and beautiful, rolling, ancient granite.

Day 3

Each day, after salutations to the sun and a delicious breakfast, you head out for a day paddle of discovery. There are so many beautiful islands it’s difficult to decide where to stop for a picnic lunch. You’ll typically return to camp around 3 p.m. to relax, swim, read a book and explore the island on foot.

Each evening you’ll wind down with a sunset yoga practice. Evening practice takes advantage of all the day’s movements, lengthening stretches and working together to improve abilities. You finish with a calming Vinyasa flow and meditation as the setting sun decants its hues across the horizon.

Your yoga instructor will be available to help you develop a personal yoga practice that best suits the demands you put on your body in order to keep it running like a well oiled machine, ready to take on whatever challenges you want to throw at it.  Your guides can also help you work on whatever kayaking skills you’d like. This trip is a pleasure trip and although there is no formal kayaking instruction, they can coach to whatever skill level you are at in your kayak.

Our guides take care of your needs on land as well, with a fully equipped campsite. The food is fresh and plentiful; in fact, many say they eat better on our trips than they do at home!

Your adventure ends mid-afternoon on Day 5, where you will return to the landing where you launched for the trip, revitalized from your amazing Georgian Bay coastal experience.
