Vancouver Island Multi-Sport Adventure

About the Experience

Even the most experienced adventurer’s jaw drops at the sight of this coastal wonder. Surfers, kayakers, hikers, and some of this coast’s most remarkable wildlife all converge at The Pacific Rim National Park Park.

As you hike along the Wild Pacific Trail, you will try your best to take it all in: the towering rainforest, the shimmering tide pools, and the bright, tremendous blue of the ocean. As your boots propel you around the rugged cliffs of this place, you are dazzled again and again by the sights that greet you around every bend. Blue herons, wolves, bears, bald eagles, salmon, slugs all swirl around this stretch of land in an unparalleled tapestry.

With board in hand, you plunge straight into the heart of the waves, as you standup paddle and surf upon water so clear and bright you may as well be skidding around the sky. When it’s time to take to your kayak, you are treated to some of the finest stretches of water your paddles have ever pushed through. These waters are long, quiet, winding ribbons of blue that run right alongside wide sandy beaches that beckon like soft, endless playgrounds.

At night, you will sit with your sisters beneath the stars, sharing food and laughter and gratitude for a day filled with so much joy. Warm in your sleeping bag, your body pleasantly tired from so much play, lift your face to the sky and breathe. Here is where you are most yourself.

DAY ONE: WELCOME & RELAXATION

Your guides will welcome you at the Tofino Ecolodge in the afternoon, which is accessible by shuttle from Victoria or Nanaimo. After a group orientation and welcome dinner by the waterfront, you’ll have the evening to explore the village of Tofino, a mecca for outdoor adventure enthusiasts on the island.

Day Two: Wild Pacific Rim Coastal Hiking

Travel to Ucluelet for an interpretive day hike along the Wild Pacific Trail. You will experience the rugged shoreline and rainforest of BC first hand. The liveliness of the ocean has a special effect on the land and you will quickly notice what makes the West Coast so unique.

The Wild Pacific Trail is located in Ucluelet and is a seven phase trail system skirting the rugged cliffs and shoreline of the west coast of Vancouver Island. Overlooking Barkley Sound and the Broken Group Islands to the east and the open Pacific Ocean to the south and west, it offers spectacular shoreline panoramas and seaward vistas through ancient cedar and spruce-framed viewing platforms constructed on the best headlands along the route.

Day Three: Playing in the Surf

Time to taste the Pacific Ocean! You have the great pleasure to meet world-renowned surfer, Catherine. She is a lifelong local Tofino surfer who loves to spend most of her time in the ocean and she will be teaching you the art of surfing and stand up paddling. She is a talented surfer with a beautiful style and is an incredible ambassador for her hometown of Tofino, B.C. As a Paddle Canada SUP Instructor she teaches paddle boarding full time. With her vast experience growing up on the ocean and surfing, Catherine brings a wealth of local knowledge to all her courses. Motivated by her love for the ocean and beaches, the fresh air and the rainforest, Catherine loves to share her stoke and appreciation for the planet.

No experience is needed – total beginners are most welcome and soon you will be riding the waves in style!

DAY FOUR – SEVEN: DESTINATION VARGAS ISLAND

Wild Women Expeditions is excited to be offering a 3-night back-country kayaking trip in the heart of the spectacular wilderness that is Clayoquot Sound. You will be camping in areas perfect for developing kayaking skills: sheltered coves in a remote location with access to miles of sandy beaches.

Clayoquot Sound is a paddler’s paradise, famous for its long, secluded and spectacular sandy beaches and old growth forests. This temperate coastal rainforest provides important refuge and habitat for a significant number of animals. Bald eagles, wolves, ospreys, humpback whales and gray whales are common in the area. Besides the thrill of paddling crystal waters in the midst of nature’s playground, there’s plenty of time for quiet or active fun. Hike in old growth forest, explore stunning white sand beaches, or play in the surf!

On Day 7, you will paddle back to mainland and have a celebration dinner before enjoying another night at a local inn nestled on 4 acres of seaside rainforest with easy access to the waterfront via forest walking trails.

Day Eight: Farewells

You will enjoy breakfast together at your accommodation before your tour ends and you go your separate ways.  If you have some time before you head out of town, we invite you to explore the local shops and galleries of Tofino.
