I began guiding for WWE in 2001 as a white water canoe-tripping guide on the French and Spanish Rivers. From there, I began to guide trips into the Temagami, Killarney, and Mississagi areas and on the infamous WWE ‘Mystery Tours’ near Biscotasing. I also led WWE hiking trips in the Canadian Rockies for 3 years.

During the time I started guiding for WWE, my partner Jim Little and I ran Sundog Outfitters, which specialized in outfitting and guiding canoes trips in the Northeastern Ontario – focusing primarily on the Spanish River, and operating from our off-grid log cabin and canvas tent base camp on Simmons Lake just outside of Sudbury, Ontario. Our little operation of adventures ran from 2000 until 2007, after which we decided to take a break from outfitting and guiding, and focus on raising our two sons Finley and Riley, who are now 12 and 9, and great canoe trippers themselves 🙂

For the past 6 years, I have been the coordinating logistics for all of WWE’s Northern Ontario canoe trips and in fall of 2013, took on the role of WWE’s ‘Trip Manager’, working behind the scenes with all of our international partners assisting in program development and logistics.  I have been fortunate to experience WWE trips outside Canada including Kauai (Hawaii), Cinque Terre and the Italian Riviera, Baja, Mexico and most recently scouting the new multi-sport adventure in beautiful Ireland.

The opportunities that I have been given as a guide and manager at WWE have allowed me to grow professionally and have kept me thriving with good doses of outdoor adventure and wilderness. WWE has given me the balance much needed in my life during in the prime of motherhood and for that, I am grateful.

Guiding all-women canoe trips has presented me an experience like no other: the companionship of new friends, working together as a team towards common goals; the taste of a shared meal after an exhilarating day followed by story telling around the campfire and laughing till my sides split; gained wisdom from fellow trippers; the carefree joy of the skinny dip; the freedom to BE.  And it is such a rewarding feeling, as a guide, to witness the positive transformation each woman goes through during the course of the trip, each experience unique.
