Guided by Light: Exploring the Arctic
Sail through one of the most stirring regions on Earth on our new Baffin Island and Greenland: Circling the Midnight Sun small ship expedition!
Aboard the Ocean Victory, every moment is built for explorers—Zodiac rides through drifting ice, unhurried walks across colourful tundra, and conversations on deck beneath the glow of the midnight sun.
From the rolling landscapes of southeast Baffin to Greenland’s immense glacial fjords, this voyage reveals a North that is both powerful and gentle. Polar bears, belugas, icebergs, and wildflowers share the same horizon, each shaped by a delicate balance of endurance and renewal. In communities such as Panniqtuuq and Ilulissat, art and culture flow directly from the land—woven into every print, carving, song, and shared meal.
Baffin Island and Greenland
Stories Carry Across the Sea
Travelling through Inuit Nunangat—the homelands of Inuit—you’ll journey with Inuit cultural educators, artists, and community members who bring the Arctic to life through language, food, humour, and story. This isn’t travel as spectatorship; it’s travel grounded in relationship and respect. Alongside your expert expedition team, you’ll experience the North not as a frontier, but as a living world where modern life and ancient knowledge coexist.
This Baffin Island and Greenland small ship expedition is, at its heart, a rare invitation: to witness the Arctic in full summer light and to be welcomed into its stories with care. It’s an exclusive journey made possible by our small ship and close community onboard—a chance to feel the beauty, courage, and connection this region inspires.

Day 1
Iqaluit, NU, Canada
Your Baffin Island and Greenland Expedition Begins
Arrive in Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut. Overlooking the wide stretch of Frobisher Bay, the city sits where open tundra meets some of the highest tides in the world, rising and falling across ancient rock and shimmering flats. This is Inuit Nunangat, the homeland of Inuit, where land and sea move in steady rhythm with one another.
As you make your way toward the vessel, the scale of the tides becomes unmistakable. A short Zodiac transfer brings you closer to the shoreline’s patterns of water, stone, and light—an introduction to the North that feels both powerful and grounding.
Ahead lies a journey shaped by Arctic summer light, community connection, and the stories held along these northern coasts.

Day 2
Frobisher Bay
Horizons of Stone and Stillness
We sail through waters once charted by explorer Martin Frobisher—though the land and sea long predate any map. Here, the story is held in the geology itself: ancient seabeds folded over time, valleys carved by ice, and mineral seams that shimmer in the Arctic light.
From the deck, watch for seabirds tracing the wind, seals surfacing near the floes, or the smooth rise of a whale breaking the stillness. The wide horizons of Frobisher Bay invite a quieter pace, the kind that gives space for reflection and helps you settle into the rhythm of the North.
The landscape feels both expansive and familiar—an early reminder that the Arctic reveals itself slowly, and always on its own terms. Hikers, birders, poets, photographers, daydreamers and self-proclaimed philosophers all fall under the dramatic coastal spell.
Later, we can reflect on the chills and thrills of the day’s total sensory massage in the sauna or hot tub.

Day 3
Southeast Baffin Island
Walking the Arctic Summer
Today we step onto the nuna—the land itself—where Arctic summer reaches its brief but brilliant peak. Mosses, lichens, and tiny wildflowers spread across the tundra in vivid patches of colour, each one a quiet testament to endurance and light.
Walking with Inuit and scientific guides, you’ll learn how ecology, culture, and daily life are woven together here. Stories of the land sit alongside knowledge of plants, wildlife, and the shifting relationship between tundra and sea.
In this vibrant landscape, time feels different—slower, spacious, and deeply grounding. Each step offers a moment of connection to a place that has carried life and story for countless generations.

Day 4
Cumberland Sound
Where History Lives in the Land
Today we enter the wide arc of Cumberland Sound, a place that has long been a gathering ground for Inuit and an important waypoint in early searches for the Northwest Passage. Along its northern edge, the Cumberland Peninsula rises in rugged layers—steep cliffs, shadowed valleys, and mountains that taper toward the sea.
In the nineteenth century, these same waters drew whalers from distant shores. Their presence shaped trade, relationships, and at times hardship. Remnants of old stations still rest along the coast, quiet reminders of a complex chapter in Arctic history.
Exploring the coves and islands by Zodiac and on foot, you’ll feel the depth of this landscape’s story. The surrounding mountains stand like sentinels, framing a coastline where past and present meet.
Archaeological sites and ancient hunting grounds speak to Inuit and their ancestors who lived and thrived here for millennia. Along the shorelines, you may spot polar bears moving with deliberate ease, or beluga whales tracing the blue-green channels—life continuing in the rhythms that have shaped this region for generations.

Day 5
Panniqtuuq (Pangnirtung)
Art, Land, and Community
Surrounded by snow-capped peaks and a winding river valley, Panniqtuuq—Pang to those who live here—is a place where art, community, and landscape are deeply intertwined. The light along the fjord feels almost luminous, reflecting off the water, the mountains, and the village itself.
Visit the Angmarlik Visitor Centre to learn about both Thule culture and contemporary Inuit life, or step inside the Uqqurmiut Inuit Arts Centre, where weavers and printmakers create work that feels inseparable from the land around them. Each tapestry, each carving, carries the patterns of the place—its lines, its light, its quiet strength.
Walking through Pang, you feel the steady rhythm of daily life: children playing near the shoreline, artists working with practiced hands, mountains framing every direction. It’s a community shaped by resilience, creativity, and the enduring ties between people and place.

Day 6
Baffin Island’s Cumberland Coast
Ice, Stone, and Shifting Light
Along the Atlantic side of the Cumberland Peninsula, the land rises sharply from the sea, its cliffs shaped over millennia by ice, wind, and waves. Glacial valleys open into fjords where turquoise meltwater meets the tide, creating bands of colour that change with every passing hour.
The air carries the scent of salt and bare stone, and the light moves constantly—soft at dawn, bright in midday haze, and warm with touches of gold toward evening. This is a coastline defined by raw geometry and quiet scale, where ridges and escarpments tell their own slow stories of transformation.
From the deck or by Zodiac, the mountains seem to lean gently toward the ocean, offering a rare perspective on the meeting place of land and sea. It’s a day for watching the landscape unfold in its own pace and pattern, guided by the long light of Arctic summer.

Day 7
Davis Strait
Learning in Motion
As we cross the Davis Strait on this Baffin Island and Greenland small ship expedition, the ship becomes a gathering place for learning and connection. Inuit team members lead workshops, stories, and conversations rooted in generations of lived experience—offering insight into community life, resilience, and change in the modern Arctic. You might try Inuit games, listen to a drum performance, or join a discussion that brings new depth to the landscapes we’ve been travelling through.
Out on deck, whales and seabirds often travel alongside the ship, moving easily through the long summer light. With the sun lingering just above the horizon, the day feels spacious and reflective—a chance to learn, to listen, and to feel the quiet link between sea, sky, and spirit.Included Meals

Days 8-10
Western Greenland
An Open Air Gallery
Welcome to Kalaallit Nunaat—Greenland, where mountains rise directly from the sea and braided rivers of ice trace their way to the coast. Our landings offer time to walk the tundra, wander through wildflower meadows, and photograph the shifting light as it moves across stone and glacier.
Here, contrast is everywhere: the vastness of ice set against the delicacy of Arctic poppies, the quiet of a sheltered fjord interrupted by the sharp crack of calving ice.
With naturalists and Inuit cultural educators alongside us, each moment becomes more than a view—it becomes context, story, and a deeper understanding of this extraordinary landscape.

Where Ice Tells Its Story
In Ilulissat—whose name means “icebergs”—the power of creation is visible in motion. Walk the boardwalk to the Ilulissat Icefjord Centre, where stories of ice, climate, and community come together in a space designed to deepen understanding of this remarkable coastline.
From the shore, look out toward Sermeq Kujalleq, one of the fastest-calving glaciers in the world. Icebergs drift into Disko Bay in countless shapes and shades—soft blues, bright silvers, and the occasional translucent glow under the midnight sun.
In town, museums, craft shops, and cafés offer a welcoming glimpse into daily life. Art, food, and conversation reveal the warmth of Greenlandic culture, grounding the day’s immense landscapes in the rhythm of community and place.

Kangerlussuaq, Greenland
The Closing Light
We sail through Kangerlussuaq Fjord, one of the longest fjords in the world, where cliffs rise in warm gold under the low-angle Arctic light. The passage feels both spacious and intimate—an unhurried final look at the landscapes that have carried us through the last twelve days.
As we reach Kangerlussuaq and prepare for the charter flight to Toronto, the moments of the journey linger: the crack of calving ice, shared laughter onboard, the guidance of Inuit cultural educators, and the steady glow of Arctic summer.
The voyage concludes, but its impressions stay with you—quiet, vivid, and enduring.
