Discover Rwanda’s Mountain Forests

On our new Tanzania and Rwanda Safari Adventure, your journey begins in Rwanda, a country of lush hills, vibrant culture, and powerful history. Explore the welcoming capital of Kigali before travelling into the misty landscapes of Volcanoes National Park, home to the world’s endangered mountain gorillas and some of Africa’s most breathtaking rainforest scenery.

One of the most profound moments of the journey is gorilla trekking in Rwanda. Hiking through dense rainforest with expert guides, you’ll spend time observing a family of mountain gorillas up close—watching playful youngsters tumble while the powerful silverback calmly watches over the group. It’s a rare and deeply moving wildlife experience.

Of course, the classic Big Five are always on our radar: lion, leopard, elephant, Cape buffalo, and rhino. But Tanzania has its own “bonus fives”—from giraffes craning above the trees and dainty dik-diks darting through the brush, to flamingos painting the lakes pink and waterbucks grazing in the shallows. It’s the ultimate wildlife scavenger hunt. And for birders? The Serengeti alone boasts over 500 species of birds!

Tanzania & Rwanda Safari

Into Tanzania’s Wild Landscapes

From Rwanda, your adventure continues to Tanzania, where vast savannahs and iconic safari landscapes await. Explore Tarangire National Park, famous for its giant baobabs and elephant herds, and discover the dramatic volcanic terrain of Lake Natron, where Maasai culture and extraordinary Rift Valley scenery create a truly unique safari experience.

The journey culminates in the legendary Serengeti National Park and the wildlife-rich Ngorongoro Crater, two of Africa’s most remarkable ecosystems. Here you may witness the Great Migration, search for the Big Five, and share unforgettable moments around the campfire—experiencing the magic of East Africa alongside a supportive community of women.

Arrivals and Departures

  • This Tanzania Rwanda Safari starts in Rwanda with your first night at the Mövenpick Kigali
  • You fly into Kigali International Airport (airport code: KGL)
  • Plan arrivals accordingly to join the evening meet and greet and orientation on Day 1.
  • You fly out of Kilimanjaro International Airport (airport code: JRO).
  • For your international departure flight, you will need to check in 3 hours prior to your flight departure time, so please book an outbound flight accordingly, and preferably in the evening, from 18:00h onwards on Day 15.
  • For those who cannot take an evening flight, you can book an overnight stay at Airport Planet Lodge, located near Kilimanjaro International Airport and take a morning international flight with ease the next day, taking advantage of the lodge’s complimentary airport transfer.

Upon arrival at the airport, be ready well in advance with:

  • Your entrance visas for Rwanda and Tanzania
  • Your Yellow Fever vaccination certificate (if required)
  • Any other documents required for your entry into Rwanda and Tanzania

Potable Water

Please bring your refillable drinking water bottles for this adventure. We do not supply single-use plastic drinking water bottles. We carry 20L drinking water reusable dispensers in our safari vehicles.

Day 3: Rwanda Trekking

For a gorilla trek, you need to be fairly fit for the humid, muddy conditions of a rainforest with a high-altitude hike (NEED ELEVATION).  Please refer to the ‘Is This Trip Right For Me’ tab for additional information about what to expect on this trip.

Day 6 & 7:

  • The Nyikani Tented Camp is situated in a remote part of Tarangire National Park and is unfenced. Animals, including predators, can wander into the area of the camp.
  • Take caution when walking. Always walk escorted by a guard in the evening.
  • You will be in an open safari vehicle during your night game drive. This gives you plenty of stargazing opportunities in the vehicle, but you may also feel the chill and breeze of the park. Wrap up warm for the night game drive.

Day 8:

  • On your Tanzania Safari Adventure-during the Mto Wa Mbu Cultural immersion, carry some money with you as there will be some good opportunities to purchase locally produced handicrafts and art directly from artisans at negotiable prices rather than from tourist establishments.
  • Please be prepared for the long and bumpy ride to Lake Natron.
  • Lake Natron is a lowland area and has a harsh and hot climate where the sun is especially strong.
    • The landscape and environment are arid, and the wind can blow plenty of dust. Please bring clothes appropriate for these conditions. Though the conditions may seem harsh, visiting such a remote and distinct place will feel spectacularly special when you experience the landscape and its people.
  • Lake Natron Halisi Camp is an environmentally conscious camp with minimal alterations made to the land.  The whole concept behind it is that if the camp moves, the land will return to the original state in which it was found.
    • There are portable camping toilets, solar fridges, and lighting.
    • The camp is an unfenced camp in a Wildlife Management Area, which is an area where human settlements and wildlife co-exist, and government authorities manage this coexistence whilst promoting the conservation of wildlife in the area
    • As wildlife exists in this area, animals can come close to the vicinity of the camp. Please take caution when walking, and at night, walk accompanied by a guard from the camp.

Day 9:

  • Don’t forget your swimsuit for the Hot Spring visit! Soaking in these therapeutic waters is an experience not to be missed!
  • Always be mindful of taking enough gear to protect yourself from the sun during the day. Carry sufficient water too.

Day 10:

  • Be prepared for the long drive, bumpy in parts, to Serengeti National Park.
  • The accommodation at Nyikani Migration Camp is an unfenced tented camp.
    • You will get to experience the nature and wilderness of Serengeti National Park. However, take caution, always walk accompanied by a guard, and follow all instructions given to you by the camp staff.
    •  Wild animals, including predators, can freely roam into the camp.

Day 12

At Dunia Camp

  • There are eight spacious luxury tented suites on raised wooden decks, each with expansive views of the savannah and acacia woodland, which can be absorbed from the large private verandas.
  • These two nights are all-inclusive and include complimentary laundry service, too! In your tented suite, you’ll find robes, rubber boots and a solar shower.
  • You can order a sundowner to be delivered to your tent via walkie-talkie!

Day 14

  • Wrap up warm as the Ngorongoro Crater rim is a chilly and misty place at an altitude of 2286m/7500 ft.
  • Light yet sturdy walking shoes are recommended for the crater rim walk. The terrain can be rocky with much navigation around thorny bushes.
