Arrive in Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut. Overlooking the wide stretch of Frobisher Bay, the city sits where open tundra meets some of the highest tides in the world, rising and falling across ancient rock and shimmering flats. This is Inuit Nunangat, the homeland of Inuit, where land and sea move in steady rhythm with one another.

We sail through waters once charted by explorer Martin Frobisher—though the land and sea long predate any map. Here, the story is held in the geology itself: ancient seabeds folded over time, valleys carved by ice, and mineral seams that shimmer in the Arctic light.

Cumberland Sound
Where History Lives in the Land
Today we enter the wide arc of Cumberland Sound, a place that has long been a gathering ground for Inuit and an important waypoint in early searches for the Northwest Passage. Along its northern edge, the Cumberland Peninsula rises in rugged layers—steep cliffs, shadowed valleys, and mountains that taper toward the sea.
In the nineteenth century, these same waters drew whalers from distant shores. Their presence shaped trade, relationships, and at times hardship. Remnants of old stations still rest along the coast, quiet reminders of a complex chapter in Arctic history.
Exploring the coves and islands by Zodiac and on foot, you’ll feel the depth of this landscape’s story. The surrounding mountains stand like sentinels, framing a coastline where past and present meet.
Archaeological sites and ancient hunting grounds speak to Inuit and their ancestors who lived and thrived here for millennia. Ilulissat
Where Ice Tells Its Story

Trip Details
The Ocean Victory
While you’ll be with the Wild Women group, this isn’t an exclusive Wild Women Expeditions or 100% women-only trip. The Wild Women group size can range from 8 to 30 women, but there will be other passengers along for the journey. In addition, the staff and crew of the Ocean Victory, a 186 passenger ship, will also be mixed-gender.
