A Sub-zero Safari

Navigate south of 66°33′ S on Wild Women Expeditions first-ever Crossing the Circle: Southern Expedition. There’s a reason why Antarctica and the word magic are interchangeable. We satiate our curiosity and inner polar explorer on the 128-passenger Ocean Explorer from Ushuaia, Argentina to the Antarctic Circle and back. The highlight reel is endless—from unmatched encounters with humpbacks and chatty penguin colonies, there are also trilling seals, countless seabirds and calving icebergs.

TRAVEL DEEP INTO THE FROZEN FRONTIER

A Classroom Without Walls

On Zodiac and shore excursions, we have the opportunity to get up close and personal with marine mammals, Antarctic ice and the dynamic frozen landscape of iceberg-poked horizons. We can earn all of our Girl Guide badges in one remarkable trip: Ornithology, Marine Biology, Geology, Glaciology, Volcanology! During sea days, the onboard Expedition Team facilitates a myriad of workshops, lectures and film screenings that we can squeeze in between jacuzzi soaks or leisurely afternoon tea.

I had the time of my life! I knew it would be a great trip but I had no idea how much my soul would be so filled with the awe of Earth’s Beauty and the utter Peace of being with magnificent creatures in nearly perfect harmony! Getting to know the other Wild Women on the trip was a rare pleasure and treasure! I think these will be long term friends and not the last of seeing each other!! Thank you for everything!”

Trip Details

While you’ll be with the Wild Women group, this isn’t an exclusive Wild Women Expeditions or 100% women-only trip. In addition, the staff and crew of the Ocean Explorer, a 138-passenger ship, will also be co-ed.

Your Guide to Antarctica

Click HERE for a more in-depth guide to all of the logistical details you’ll need to know prior to departure—including what you can expect on this expedition, the packing list, and arrival and departure details.

Our Expedition Cruise Partner’s Client Portal

Approximately three to four months prior to departure, you will receive an email with a unique URL link to our partner’s information portal. Please carefully and thoroughly complete these forms with your current personal and medical information, dietary preferences or requirements and other information as requested.

The Itinerary

We don’t like to blame Mother Nature but she has her off days, and weather conditions can change in a snap and affect our arrival times. There are no guarantees that we can achieve everything we set out to accomplish. A measure of flexibility is something all of us must bring to a voyage. There are nearly 200 recognized sites in the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetlands, and the places mentioned in this itinerary may be changed to others equally as riveting!

Airline schedule changes have also been known to occur in Argentina too so pack a little patience with your extra granola bars. We advise not booking flights until mid or late afternoon.

This expedition starts in Ushuaia, Argentina (airport code: USH), and finishes in Ushuaia, Argentina (airport code: USH).

The Wild Women Way

If you’re wondering how we roll, it’s together. The Wild Women Way is our modus operandi, our mantra and our rock solid foundation. You can learn more about our Wild Ways HERE.

How We Support You

Ready for a big adventure? On this trip we brave the elements, hike uneven coastal terrain and have several Zodiac transfers (from the ship to Zodiac and from Zodiac to shore). Yes, it can be a challenge, but you’re never alone. Like thousands of women before you, you’ll draw on the strength you didn’t know you had and tap into your inner explorer.

Still have questions or concerns? Let’s talk about it.

What the Trip Entails

  • checkmark icon Entering and exiting the Zodiacs
  • checkmark icon Maneuvering around tight spaces
  • checkmark icon Walking on uneven terrain
  • checkmark icon Being on a boat for an extended period of time

  • checkmark icon If you choose to go on the kayaking excursions, some kayaking experience is required
  • checkmark icon Please note that Wild Women small ship expeditions are not 100% Wild Women exclusive or women-only. Staff, crew and fellow passengers on the Ocean Explorer will be co-ed
